I have seen a notable rise in the number of twilight weddings that are happening lately. A twilight wedding usually begins after 4pm and incorporates the ceremony followed by a less formal reception, flowing into the evening celebrations. Every day is completely different so this is just a general idea, but the later start time does have its benefits.
Benefits of a Twilight Wedding
So photography wise, I’m completely flexible and happy to work with any arrangements. I could still capture preparations up to a couple of hours before the ceremony or I could arrive at the venue an hour before if prep is not required. I would capture the ceremony and then some lovely family/ wedding party groups and some relaxed couple’s shots, with the rest of the day being covered in a very editorial fashion… telling the story of your beautiful day.
Package wise, I don’t offer a specific Twilight option as the work involved is the same for me regardless of the ceremony time! I do offer an hourly rate for midweek weddings though if you’re literally having a tiny wedding and just want a few hours coverage.
I never put a limit on the number of photos I take or hand over, and I don’t have a number of set hours of coverage, as every wedding day is unique. A twilight wedding will actually have a similar number of photos to a earlier start, as I still need to provide all of the shots required… I just have to work a little faster to capture these in a shorter period of time. The editing time involved is also the same.
Also, a traditional wedding will usually have a 2 hour long wedding breakfast where I recharge my batteries (physically and mentally!) and take a break. This often isn’t the case with a twilight wedding, which is no problem at all… it’s exciting in fact when there are no breaks in the proceedings and I do like to be kept busy… and it’s a good job I do, because shooting a wedding certainly keeps a girl on her toes!
