I don’t think the lovely bride will mind me saying that she was pretty nervous when she arrived for her wedding. The weather had been on and off all week, and even though I always tell my couples not to worry about the weather, it’s only natural that they do! The couple had planned an outdoor ceremony and a decision had to be made whether to risk the rain or not. There were over a hundred guests and some outstanding floral decorations, which could not be moved super quickly, so the groom took the decision to stay indoors…. and the decision paid off as the room looked absolutely beautiful!
Holly didn’t want any bridal prep photos, so I captured her when she arrived instead and wow… the dress was pure Hollywood glam, with the rest of the bride to match! Daisy was the special doggy ring-bearer and did her job impeccably! After the ceremony, I organised the confetti tunnel quickly and recommended that we head off for the couple’s shots sooner rather than later, as the sky was looking very ominous!
We took two golf buggies and took a little spin to a small pond, during which time some great, indigo coloured clouds had formed – which actually acted like a huge reflector on the couple and made the photos really pop!
It literally started spitting when we got back in the buggies, just a few minutes later, and we made it back to dry land without a hair out of place! We stayed indoors for drinks and as soon as the rain went away, outside we went for some traditional family and wedding party group photos.
This is what happens on a rainy day wedding – we just nip outside when we can and don’t worry about it at all!
Lots of natural, candid shots followed, with dinner, speeches and lots of dancing! The bride and groom had hired a very energetic salsa teaching lady, who was absolutely incredible and got everybody up on their feet to work off their dinner!
I’ve photographed literally hundreds of weddings and never seen that before!
Thanks for having me guys, it was mega fun!
